With smile well fixed so no one knew
Just how that soul could be so blue
A trick well mastered through the years
An expert at hiding the silent tears.
Tears for all that had been lost
Regrets, mistakes, all at a cost.
At times there were some tears of joy,
But alas were rare in their employ.
A soul that strived to simply fit
Though never would become a hit
With those whose aim was to conspire
To keep this soul an outlier.
The pain was real, the memories deep
Destroying peace and stealing sleep.
No middle ground for those wasted years
The smile still hides those silent tears.
